YouHaiku: Emmanuel

YouHaiku: Emmanuel

Time for some weekend poetry, and what better poetry could we write this weekend than some Haiku. Yes, I said “we”! It’s your turn to contribute some of your own fun with words. Spend just a few minutes and write something as you reflect on Emmanuel, God with us (Jesus!).

You don’t have to be a poet, just play with your words and ideas. Professional quality writing not necessary or expected!

Here is a little incentive: I will take each person who contributes a haiku poem and put your name in a random drawing for a book that¬† you will receive before Christmas. It’s a great book to use as we begin the new year.¬† I’ll announce the book when I announce the winner. Submit your poem by commenting here before midnight Sunday.

Although the haiku tradition and guidelines can get quite complex and even controversial, we will follow the general rule of writing the first line with five syllables, second line seven syllables, and third line five syllables. Here is my haiku to get us started.

He came to us small

Glory wrapped, voice a babble

Became my Word, my bright Hope

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delay in announcing a winner. We’ve had some technical difficulties with some of the comments and finally have them worked out. Kn Moy is the winner and you will receive a copy of Meet the Bible, Kn. Congratulations and I love your poem! Thank you to all you poets who entered the contest. I hope you will do so again for our next YouHaiku or other writing opp!
